7.13.1 Flexible Hose (Does not conform to type 2 of BS3212)
Flexible hoses should conform to type 2 of BS3212, and generally has an orange cover. Armoured hoses should have a permanently fixed tag or but stamped clearly showing that it conforms to type 2 of BS3212.
As drain hoses are not permanently charged with LPG, it is not necessary for them to conform to BS3212.
7.13.2 Flexible Hose (Not of minimum practicable length or exceeds 1 metre.)
Flexible tubes should be kept to the minimum practicable length and should not exceed 1 metre.
It must not be so long as to pose a risk of kinking; snagging or becoming trapped by other structure, however it must not be so short to stretch and cause leaks at joints or connectors.
7.13.3 Flexible Hose (Not readily accessible)
The flexible hose should be readily accessible for regular checks on its condition.
7.13.4 Flexible Hose (Installation under stress or with tight radius turns)
Flexible hose should be installed without stress or tight radius turns. Poor installation may cause damage and lead to premature ageing. BS3212 requires a minimum bend radius of 5x the diameter of the hose.
7.13.5 Flexible Hose (Not protected from abrasion through bulkhead, partitions, deck-heads or decks)
Flexible hose should not pass through bulkheads, partitions or deck heads without protection from abrasion. It could be protected by the use of sleeves, grommets or other means.
7.13.6 Flexible Hose in low pressure applications (Not connected as specified)
Flexible hose should be a pre assembled length fitted with integral threaded metallic ends or secured to nozzles by a metal crimped clip or a worm drive hose clamp.
7.13.7 Hose Clamps (Fixed by spring tension)
Hose clamps fixed by spring tension should not be used. Only hoses clamps fixed by the use of tools must be used and clamps applied by hand and fixed by spring tension alone are not permitted.
7.13.8 Hose Clips & Clamps (Not of correct size for hose)
Hose clips and clamps should be of the correct size for the hose and at least 8mm in width.
Over sized clamps become elliptical when tension is applied, rather circular causing the wall of the hose to be pinched and possibly damaged at the tensioning point. Undersized clamps do not allow the rack of the clamp to be fully engaged so the connection is not made tightly as it should be.
7.13.9 Flexible Hose (Used where temperature could exceed 50°c)
Flexible hoses should not be used where it could be subjected to temperatures above 50°c.
7.14.1 Portable Appliance (Appliance connector to isolation valve not fitted with bayonet, plug-in or screwed connection)
Flexible hose should be connected to the isolation valves by means of a bayonet, plug in or screwed connection.
7.14.2 Portable Appliance isolation valve (Screwed connection not properly plugged or capped when appliance not connected.)
Pipework to portable appliances fitted a screwed connection should be properly plugged or capped when the appliance is not connected.
