Boat Safety Scheme - Standard 7.7 to 7.8

7.7.1 LPG cylinders in self-draining cockpit (Not in a cylinder locker or housing)
With installations in self draining cockpits cylinders can be secured in a cylinder housing, provided such a housing meets the requirements regarding ventilation and LPG drainage. However it is recommended that cylinders in self draining cockpits should be secured in a cylinder locker.

7.7.2 LPG cylinders in self-draining cockpit (Cockpit drains outlets not above deepest loaded waterline)
Cylinder housings may open from the side into a self draining cockpit provided that the cockpit drains are above the deepest loaded waterline.

7.7.3 LPG cylinders in self-draining cockpit (Cockpit not LPG tight to interior of vessel to height specified)
Cylinder housings in self draining cockpits may open from the side provided that the design of the vessel ensures that the cockpit is LPG tight to the interior of the vessel at least to the height of the cylinder valves, regulator and associated equipment. Any bridge deck or sill must be at least this high to prevent escaping LPG entering the hull interior.

7.7.4 LPG cylinders in self-draining cockpit (Cockpit hatches or openings not watertight)
Cylinder housings may open from the side into self draining cockpits provided that any hatches or openings within the cockpit are watertight.

7.8.1 Cylinder locker / housing (Contains items that could damage regulators or pipework)
Cylinder lockers must not be used for general storage. Solid objects as mooring pins, hammers and other tools can easily damage parts of the installation.

7.8.2 Cylinder locker / housing (Contains items that could obstruct the drain)
Cylinder lockers should not be used for the storage of any materials that could possibly obstruct the drain. Soft materials such as ropes, cleaning cloths and buoyancy aids are particularly likely to cause a drain blockage.

7.8.3 Cylinder locker / housing (Contains items that could ignite leaking LPG)
Cylinder lockers should not contain any items that could ignite LPG. This may include spark inducing electrical equipment, but generally with not include solenoid controlled gas shut off valves.
