SF Detection is Europe's largest manufacturer of residential carbon monoxide and gas alarms. Part of the international Zellweger Analytics Group, there products are the culmination of over 40-years research and development of gas detection systems.
It is important that the detector is situated in the best position to detect LP Gas. SF Detection marine LP gas alarms are designed so that the main alarm unit can be installed in an easily visible area where the alarm can be heard, such as the Galley or near the Navigators Station. The detector will sound an alarm before gas builds up to dangerous levels.
The sensor detects LP Gas (Propane & Butane), which is heavier than air. For maximum protection the sensor should be installed on a flat surface not more than 4 metres from your gas appliances. The sensor should be placed not more than 30cms from the floor. They can also be installed just inside the bilge where the gas will collect but where it will remain dry, as immersion in water will cause permanent damage.
Where not to install the Control Module:
- Outside the boat
- In an enclosed space, eg, inside a cupboard or behind a curtain
- In an area where the temperature can drop below -5°C or rise above +40°C
- Where it is likely to be knocked or damaged.
Where not to install the Sensor:
- Directly above a sink
- Directly below/above cooker
- Next to a door or window
- Next to an extractor fan
- Where dirt and dust can block the sensor and stop it working
- Damp or humid areas or where water can cover the sensor.
Avoid using the following near the sensor because the alarm might be set off:
- Aerosol sprays (Including Hairsprays and deodorants)
- Alcohol used in cooking
- Cigarette, cigar or pipe smoke
- Strong cleaning agents, polishes and solvents
- Gas cigarette lighters.
The SF Detection Alarm is available as a single or a twin sensor. In group tests carried out by Sailing Today magazine both SF alarms performed the best.
“For simplicity, user friendliness and efficiency we were most impressed with the two SF detectors. The white monitoring modules are cosmetically attractive in the confines of a boat and the wiring is neat and easy to hide. There is also a minimum of lights to worry about, and being automatic no buttons to get confused with. The sensors seem well protected, easy to fit and very quick to tell you that gas is around.”
