ON PRE June 1998 boats:
All compartments of a vessel should have adequate ventilation to prevent excessive condensation and the build up of products of combustion.
To reduce the risk of Carbon Monoxide poisoning and increase personal comfort.
Purchase a Carbon Monoxide Alarm from the Calor Marine Shop.
It is essential that the fixed ventilation be to the outside air and so designed to avoid draughts.
To increase personal comfort and reduce the risk of Carbon Monoxide poisoning
The minimum effective area of the total fixed ventilation, which it is essential to provide, is obtained from the following formula:
V= (2200 x U) + (440 x F) + (650 x P)
Where:
V = Minimum effective area in mm2. Not less than 4000mm2.
U = Input rating for all unflued appliances in kWs.
F = Input rating for all flued appliances in kWs.
P = Number of persons for which the compartment is designed.
This calculated area should be divided equally between high and low levels
Flue terminals should not be located near the intake of a mechanical ventilation system.
Flue pipes should be made of materials which will withstand vibration arising from machinery or weather conditions.
