Marine Gas Connection

Connection to appliances

Marine Gas Connection - Isolation ValveAll appliances should be fitted with an isolation valve
For servicing and maintenance. To isolate the appliance when do in use.

Fixed appliances should be connected by solid pipework
To keep flexible connections to a minimum.

Gimballed appliances should be connected with flexible hose (may be armoured)
Hose should be fixed at supply end with floor tap or securely clipped to prevent movement of any joints or connections. Armoured hoses are not required by British Standards only that the hose is made to BS3212 pt2, however it is a wise precaution to reduce the risk of mechanical damage.

Appliances should not put an undue strain on pipework
To reduce the risk of mechanical damage and work hardening

Pipework should not assist in retaining the appliance
To reduce the risk of mechanical damage and work hardening.

All appliances should be positively and securely fixed to prevent accidental movement
To reduce the risk of mechanical damage and work hardening to pipework.

Cocks and Valves

Marine Gas Connection - ValvesNeedle valves and gate valves are not permitted
Can not be guaranteed to provide a gas tight seal.

Tapered plug cocks should be spring loaded
To provide tightest possible seal and adjust for wear.

Cocks mounted at floor level should be either of the drop fan or loose key type
To prevent accidentally being kicked or knocked on.

Cocks should be fitted with handles which indicate the open or closed position
So at a glance you can see whether the gas is on or off.
