NOTE: Boats built after June 1998 all gas appliances shall be room sealed with the exception of cooking appliances. Boats built before June 1998 may have non room sealed appliances installed under 1979 BS 5482 pt3. However, when they are replaced they shall be room sealed.
ON PRE June 1998 boats:
Flueless water heaters other than sink instantaneous water heaters should not be sited in areas designed as sleeping quarters
To reduce the risk of Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
Where sink instantaneous water heaters are fitted to supply a shower or bath unit, the appliance should be flued to the open air
To reduce the risk of Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
Flueless heaters should not be sited in areas designed as sleeping quarters or shower/toilets
To reduce the risk of Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
Refrigerators should be located away from heat sources
To increase the cooling efficiency of the refrigerator.
Refrigerators should not be installed in areas of restricted ventilation
To increase the cooling efficiency of the refrigerator. To reduce the risk of Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
Appliances which have a permanent pilot should be fitted which a flame failure device
POST JUNE 1998 boats
All gas appliances shall be room sealed with the exception of cooking appliances
All gas appliance burners should be protected by a flame failure device
All gas appliances should include a test point fitting
All gas appliances should be deemed by the manufacturer as being suitable for use in a marine environment
