Marine Safety Tips

General Do's and Don’ts

Marine Safety Tips - Treat gas cylinders with careDO
Treat a cylinder with care to ensure that the valve is not damaged. A damaged valve could result in a leak with serious consequences.

DO
Transport cylinders upright. If a cylinder is on its side, Liquefied gas could seep through the threaded top / valve and present danger from an accumulation of gas vapour in confined areas. Ensure they’re properly secured.

DO
Use a cylinder upright. Horizontally, liquefied gas could get into the supply pipes with serious results.

DO
Remember that regulators need to be tighten anti clockwise and loosened clockwise.

DO
Replace the protective plastic blanking plug or cap when the cylinder is not in use.

Marine Safety Tips - Don't subject a cylinder to heatDON’T
Attempt to disconnect a regulator from a switch on valve (15kg and 7Kg cylinders) if the flame does not go out when the regulator is turned off. Leave the appliance alight and call your Calor Dealer.

DON’T
Disconnect the regulator (or connecting nut) with the cylinder valve still open.

DON’T
Subject a cylinder to heat, because pressure inside the cylinder could build up to a point beyond the designed safety limit.

Marine Safety Tips - Don't store or use cylinders in bilges or holdsDON’T
Store or use cylinders below deck, in bilges or holds. Because LP Gas is heavier than air, the gas will collect at a low level and become dangerous in the presence of flame or a spark.

DON’T
Store or use Propane cylinders indoors residentially, because propane is contained under higher pressure and should only be kept outdoors.

DO
Contact your local Calor Customer Service Department if you are in any doubt 0800 626 626.
